A wildfire that consumed 229 acres in mostly beetle-killed lodgepole pines is completely surrounded by fire lines and is 100 percent contained, according to authorities.

This Brush Creek Fire ignited by lightning did not burn any homes or outbuildings.

“It’s mostly in a mop-up operation phase,” said Steve Lipsher, spokesman for the Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue. “We imagine it will be days or maybe weeks before it is completely out.”

He said there will be some hot spots in the center of the burn area that could flare up occasionally, but firefighters are confident it won’t escape the fire lines.

It may take the first snowstorm of the year to completely extinguish the wildfire, Lipsher said.

A total of 105 firefighters from several different fire crews and two helicopters fought the fire.
