Re: “Historic Jefferson Park house is a dump, so why fight for it?,” Sept. 27 Jeremy Meyer column.

Regarding Denver’s historic Anderson House at 2329 Eliot St., Jeremy Meyer asked: “Why fight over this dump?” Here are three good reasons:

First, housekeeping is not a criteria for determining historic significance. My co-applicant summarized it as “One man’s trash is another’s treasure.”

Second, Colorado cannibal Alfred Packer plays a minor role in the events of January 1900. Historians are most interested in attorney William W. Anderson’s shooting of your founders of The Denver Post and the media circus that followed.

Third, the house is structurally sound and its brick work and wooden trim are in amazing condition after 130 years. The house is worth far more than the dirt below it. Further, the owner was quoted as saying, “I win either way.” We hope Denver wins our way.
