Colorado Springs police said Thursday they have arrested two people — a man and a woman — in connection with the July death of a 17-year-old girl who apparently overdosed on the drug “molly.”
Marjorie Dietrich, 22, was arrested Oct. 1 on suspicion of distributing a Schedule II substance.
On Wednesday, 26-year-old Ryan Kollman was arrested on the same charge, police say.
Investigators allege Dietrich and Kollman were responsible for providing molly — also known as MDA, MDMA or ecstasy — to teen Megan Pacheco.
Megan was found incoherent and unresponsive July 3. She died July 9 at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, .
The teen recently graduated from Sand Creek High School.
“The El Paso County Coroner’s Office report suggested her death was caused by an overdose from the drug,” police said in a Thursday news release.
Colorado Springs police say molly is a known “club drug,” popular among teenagers and young adults.
“According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, across the country, molly-related emergency room visits for persons under the age of 21 increased 128 percent in just six years,” the release said.
Police say molly can be taken orally in pill form or snorted. Authorities say it often is mixed with other drugs.
Colorado Springs authorities say they seized 143 units of MDA in 2014.
