Lakewood police say they have accounted for two young boys who were found unattended on Monday morning.
The two boys were found by a bystander in the area of West 18th Avenue and Kendall Street. When the person who found the children tried to have the boys wait for police, one of them ran away.
The child who fled was described as about 4 years old.
The other child, who is about 2 years old, was cared for by police until his mother was located. The mother told authorities the toddler was being watched by a neighbor when he wandered away.
The mother also told authorities the missing boy is not hers and that she doesn’t know who he is, according to police.
Authorities have not said how they accounted for the 4-year-old boy.
