The Denver police union has filed an ethics complaint against Stephanie O’Malley, who oversees the city’s public safety department.
Daelene Mix, a spokeswoman for the safety department, said in an e-mail to The Denver Post, “Executive Director O’Malley has not been contacted regarding the complaint filed by the PPA; however, if the Denver Board of Ethics decides to render an advisory opinion she will fully cooperate with its process.”
Nick Rogers, president of the Denver Police Protective Association, could not be reached for comment.
Michael Henry, executive director of the Denver Board of Ethics, said he could not confirm or deny that a complaint had been filed. Complaints are released once the board has screened them. The board also decides whether a public hearing should be held.
CBS4 reported this month that O’Malley had sent a text message to a Denver Fire Department captain warning him that firefighters were complaining about him. The captain has since been fired.
O’Malley is accused of using confidential information to tip off the captain, who was a friend, according to the CBS4 report.
