What exactly happened between Blue Jays’ Russel Martin and Rangers’ Rougned Odor?

If not for an utterly nutty bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday — a 53-minute half-inning that completely turned around Toronto’s postseason and — the top of the seventh was about to become legendary.

The situation: Score tied at 2. Texas’ Shin-Soo Choo stands in the batter’s box and Rougned Odor is on third base. Toronto pitcher Aaron Sanchez delivers a pitch to catcher Russell Martin.

Martin throws the ball back toward Sanchez. But it right away hits off Choo’s bat and into foul territory.

Odor breaks for home. But home plate umpire Dale Scott calls the play dead, presumably for interference, and sends Odor back to third.

Then the fun started.

It took them awhile to figure it all out. And both managers protested. But the official ruling was complicated.
