Denver prosecutors on Friday filed charges against a 27-year-old man who authorities say punched a 5-month-old boy in the head while he was being held by his mother.
Trevion McKenzie faces allegations of child abuse causing serious injury in the April incident, court records show.
The baby’s mother told investigators McKenzie was trying to punch her in the face when he missed and instead hit the baby boy, according to an arrest warrant.
The warrant says McKenzie swung at the child with a closed fist. Doctors told police the baby suffered facial fractures and a brain bleed.
McKenzie being held at Denver’s downtown jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. He is next due in court Oct. 20 to be advised of the charges against him.
