
It’s good news that immunization rates appear to be rising for Colorado’s kindergartners, according to a
State health officials say that last year 73.4 percent of kindergartners surveyed were immunized, compared with 63.7 percent the year before. They attribute the increase to a 2014 state law that required schools to release immunization and exemption rates and because of media reports about last year’s measles outbreak.
But work needs to be done. those of other states. One problem is it is too easy to opt out in Colorado. tighten up the personal exemption clause. “Just because” shouldn’t be a reason to opt out of this important requirement.
