GREELEY — Jacob Knipp ran for three scores and threw for a fourth as Northern Colorado rolled over UC Davis 56-27 on a postcard-perfect Saturday at Nottingham Field.
Knipp finished with 186 yards passing and 43 yards rushing for the Bears (4-2, 2-2 Big Sky). Brandon Cartagena had 112 yards rushing, ran for two touchdowns and caught a pass from Knipp for another.
Knipp and Cartagena teamed up for six touchdowns before the break, including Cartagena’s 57-yard touchdown run and 34-yard scoring reception in the first quarter, to lead Northern Colorado to a 42-3 lead at halftime.
Hakeem Deggs scored on a 75-yard run midway through the third quarter and Darius Graham ran it in from a yard out later in the third to seal the win.
Ben Scott threw for 154 yards for the Aggies (1-6, 1-3).
The victory gave the Bears back-to-back Big Sky Conference wins for the first time since the 2012 season, when they bounced back from a four-losing streak to win their final four games of the season.
Knipp a redshirt freshman from Ralston Valley, completed 10-of-15 passes and had one interception to go along with the scoring strike to Cartagena, a former Vista Ridge standout.
