A $140 million management contract for major storm sewer and street projects in Denver’s River North and Globeville neighborhoods won approval Monday from the City Council.

Kiewit Infrastructure, a national firm that’s undertaken other large projects in the metro area, . Under city rules, officials say, Kiewit still must solicit competing bids for each component.

The contract covers an overhaul of Brighton Boulevard between 29th and 44th streets; the Globeville Landing Outfall Project, one component of several planned in northeast neighborhoods that are ; and smaller street projects near the future RiNo Park.

The council vote was 11-1-1. Paul Kashmann voted no, in part because of the link to the I-70 project. Rafael Espinoza abstained, citing unresolved questions about contract oversight.
