Feel like spending the December rent AND your holiday money three weeks before New Year’s Eve?
Well, save the date — and $970: in Boulder holds its annual White Truffle and Barolo dinner Dec. 7-8.
Yes, it’s a steep price. But white truffles, imported for this dinner from Italy, are some of the priciest comestibles on the planted, coveted for their aroma and the undeniable flavor they add to food.
Frasca, helmed by chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Pattersson and master sommelier Bobby Stuckey, will bring in some big names to help with the big night. Joining the effort will be Mark Ladner, chef at Del Posto in Manhattan (awarded a rare four stars by The New York Times) and winemaker Gaia Gaja.
Each evening’s dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and is limited to 42 guests. This is the ninth year for the event.
The collaborative multi-course menu is still being developed, so making the reservations is something of an act of faith, though one that Frasca’s many fans will tell you is inevitably rewarded. In her , former Denver Post dining critic Kyle Wagner announced right off the bat: “From now on, my life will be divided into two time periods: before I ate at Frasca and after I ate at Frasca.”
Well, then.
The collaborative dinner will be prepared by Frasca’s Mackinnon-Patterson and chef di cucina, Ian Wortham, along with Ladner, who won the 2015 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: New York City.
Fresh white truffles imported directly from Italy during peak truffle season will be the menu’s stars, with the truffles shaved tableside throughout the evening. Stuckey will work the floor alongside winemaker Gaia Gaja, pairing each course with wine. Gaia, who is from Italy’s renowned Piedmont region, is the fifth generation of her family to work at the award-winning Gaja Winery.
Tickets are $970 (not including tax and gratuity) and can be purchased by contacting Lindsay Koehn at lindsay@frascafoodandwine.com or by calling 303-442-0608. A 50 percent non-refundable deposit will be due at the time of booking. The balance, tax, and gratuity will be applied the evening of the dinner.
Frasca sits at 1738 Pearl Street in Boulder.
