A driver, pulled from a car which was partially submerged in water, was taken Wednesday night to a local hospital.

The rescue happened at about 7:30 p.m. in the area of I-225 and East 6th Avenue, said Sgt. Craig Baumfalk of the Aurora Police Department.

Two police officers, the first responders to arrive, pulled a woman from the car, which was submerged in water up to the door tops, Baumfalk said.

The driver, who was conscious when rescued, was in the car for about five minutes.

“It’s pretty chilly out here tonight,” Baumfalk said.

The temperature was about 45 degrees at the time of the accident and rescue.

The car ran off a road and wound up in a drainage ditch.

Police are investigating how the accident occurred.

The two officers who rescued the driver were not injured.

Further details on the driver’s condition were not immediately available.
