Notes, tidbits and facts about Friday night’s Centennial League battle that ended with Valor Christian downing Cherry Creek 10-0 in a late one …
— From Valor Christian coach Rod Sherman: “It was a survival test.”
— Great note on the bottom of the stat sheet from Valor — in the entry for attendance, it stated: Lots. And it was true. Both sides showed well in terms of fans.
— There were a combined 15 punts, eight by Valor Christian. Jarred Kendziorski put three of them inside the Bruins’ 20-yard line, including a late one inside the 10.
— Valor registered six sacks. The Eagles’ Noah Elliss, Mitch Howell and Nate Meredith each were in on two.
— Third downs didn’t work. The Eagles were 2-of-12 and Bruins 3-of-14.
— Ben Waters caught a 97-yard touchdown pass from Dylan McCaffrey for the game’s only touchdown. It also was Waters’ only reception of the game.
— It turned chippy for a bit, including some pushing and shoving after plays. “Our guys will be running for that (on Saturday). That’s unacceptable,” Sherman said.
— Marquise Davis rushed 18 times for 108 yards for the Bruins.
— Santino Marchiol led Cherry Creek with six tackles and a sack.
— Eagles quarterback Dylan McCaffrey was a modest 8-of-17 for 147 yards and a touchdown, and “is turning into a playmaker and growing up right in front of us,” Sherman said.
— Each team had 12 drives.
— “I think both teams can look back on it and say just a few plays decided it,” Sherman said. “I think both schools bring out the best in the other, and that’s really cool.”
