GRAND COUNTY —The case of a Grand County sheriff who shot and wounded a suspect will be referred to a grand jury, officials said Tuesday.

The September incident took place in Tabernash, where Grand County Sheriff Brett Schroetlin shot and wounded 20-year-old burglary suspect Connor James MacLaird , according to a 14th Judicial District news release.

The release said MacLaird is alleged to have attacked Schroetlin with a knife.

The Sept.15 shooting happened near the Snooty Coyote Liquors in Tabernash as law enforcement, including the sheriff, responded to reports of a break-in.
