Re: “Freedom Caucus comes to its senses on Paul Ryan,” Oct. 22 editorial.
With all the to-do about the misnamed Freedom Caucus (will they support Paul Ryan or won’t they?), one big question comes to mind: Why doesn’t the more moderate, conservative majority in the House of Representatives tell this so-called Freedom Caucus to take a hike? Tell them the truth bluntly: that the Freedom Caucus has no standing within the Republican Party because its members are not conservative or Republican. They are radical reactionaries with no respect for tradition, history or decorum. They are in fact the Bolsheviks of the GOP and deserve to be cast out.
The moderate majority must summon up the guts to do this. They must declare quite bluntly that if it takes Democratic votes to get things done in the House, then so be it. They must do this or the Republican Party will become a contradiction in terms.
