ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — The attorney for a former Snowmass Village councilman charged with a DUI says his client will have to pay for damage he caused to a Pitkin County Jail cell before he can take a plea deal.
The Aspen Times reports (http://bit.ly/1HfO3JO ) Chris Jacobson was set to take the plea Wednesday. But his attorney says Jacobson doesn’t have the thousands of dollars needed to cover the damage because he is waiting on a settlement from his divorce.
Jacobson was arrested in June and is accused of tearing off sections of a wall in the jail’s isolation cell, pulling a restraining chair out of the ground and urinating on the floor.
Court documents show the estimated damage is more than $13,000.
Voters opted to recall Jacobson from office earlier this month.
