Denver Post sports columnist Mark Kiszla explained on Thursday why Peyton Manning shouldn’t run the Denver Broncos’ offense.

“Peyton Manning’s interception rate, so far this season, is higher when Peyton Manning is in the shotgun rather than when he’s in a formation more similar to Gary Kubiak’s offense,” Kiszla said.

Does that mean Manning shouldn’t be in the shotgun?

“Anyone who thinks the Denver Broncos should go back to running the offense Peyton’s way is nuts,” Kiszla said. “He can’t throw it 50 times a game unless you want 5 interceptions. That’s beyond crazy and that’s the challenge for the remainder of the season.”

Sports Show co-host Les Shapiro disagreed.

“I think they need to go back into the shotgun more,” Shapiro said. “They don’t need to pass it 50 times. They can run out of the shotgun. They’ve done it before. And they need to go to a hurry-up as well.”

“You can’t run the hurry-up all the time unless you want to throwaway the strength of your team which is the defense,” Kiszla said. “Because if you play at a faster pace, what’s going to happen? The defense will tire out. You can disagree with it all you want but if you do, you’re crazy.”
