Federal Heights has a new mayor after voters elected former Ward 2 Councilman Daniel Dick to the seat vacated by term-limited Mayor Joyce Thomas.
About 1,150 voters in the 1.8 -square-mile city north of Denver turned out for the mayoral election. Dick received 398 votes, or 34 percent, beating the next candidate by 155 votes.
Incumbent Ward 1 Councilman John Hamlin was reelected with 184 votes out of 321 cast. His challenger, Sharon Richardson, received 137 votes.
Likewise, Ward 3 incumbent Ken Murphy retained his seat over Shari De Vries. The vote split for that Ward 3 seat was 181 to 146.
Dick’s old Ward 2 seat was picked up by newcomer Kevin Dougherty, who ran unopposed.
There are three wards in Federal Heights, with two council members representing each ward. Terms are four years long.
