
1 Scammed by shady friend. A man living in the 4500 block of Copeland Lane, Highlands Ranch, said his friend used a bad $200 check to rip him off. The friend called Oct. 19 and asked him to cash the $200 for him. The bank cashed half while waiting for the check to clear. It bounced and the bank charged the victim $100. He said he used to do drugs with the suspect and thinks he is up to no good.
2 Multi-cards fraud. A woman said she misplaced her wallet in Douglas County on Oct. 20 and within hours began noticing fraudulent charges on some of her 15 credit cards. Among the stores that rejected her cards was the Target at10001 Commons St., Lone Tree.
3 Costly bike heist. A couple living in the 1700 block of Shea Center Drive, Highlands Ranch, on Oct. 26 found four mountain bikes worth a combined $6,150 had been stolen from their garage. The garage lock had been ripped out and a cable releasing the door had been pulled through the hole it left.
4 White lightning. The manager of Zen Wine and Spirits,9854 Zenith Meridian Drive, Douglas County, said a possibly underage man came in on Oct. 26 and asked what the store’s strongest liquor was. The man paced for 15 minutes, then, as the manager was helping another customer, ran out with two bottles of Everclear.
5 Barn burner. Police responded to three different calls at a barn party in the 9700 block of Polo Club Court, Douglas County, on Oct. 25. Police asked the owner to turn the music down three times. The man threatened a lawsuit but his wife complied, closing the barn door.
