When the , they had the option to turn the loan into a full buy. The price? The Rapids highest pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.
With the Rapids’ , that pick is No. 2 overall.
“We’re retaining that pick,” Rapids vice president of soccer operations Paul Bravo said Thursday.
That means the Philadelphia Union will decide what’s next for MacMath.
“Based on the way the deal is written today, yes, he’s a Philadelphia Union player,” Bravo said. “We’ve got to respect that because we have not exercised that option.”
MacMath, the youngest goalkeeper in MLS history to start 100 games, played in only three MLS games for Colorado this year, stuck behind Clint Irwin who started the first 31 games. Irwin was benched once the Rapids were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
Colorado was 1-2 in MacMath’s starts. He had one shutout, six saves and allowed five goals — four of which came in the Rapids’ final match of the season against Portland, a 4-1 loss.
MacMath also appeared in two U.S. Open Cup matches for Colorado, allowing one goal in each game.
