The Ward 2 City Council race in Brighton is still too close to call and may trigger an automatic recount pending the tabulation of about 1,000 ballots, some requiring signature verification.

Both candidates for Ward 2 — Mary Ellen Pollack and D. R. Dill — are new to the council. As of Thursday, Pollack has 50.2 percent of the votes (645 total), and Dill has 49.7 percent (639 votes). A total of 1,284 people turned in ballots.

The recount minimum is triggered when the difference between candidates is less than or equal to ½ of 1 percent of the highest votes cast.

The county will still count cured ballots and military and overseas ballots, which must be done by Nov. 12.

The final results are expected to be posted Nov. 13, according to the Adams County clerk’s office.

In the rest of the city’s wards, all of the council incumbents were retained.

Kirby Wallin for Ward 1 and Lynn Baca in Ward 3 both ran unopposed, and J.W. Edwards beat two challengers by receiving 52.5 percent of the votes cast, or 1,045 of 1,990 total votes.
