In mid-July a 24-year-old Kuwaiti-born gunman opened fire on a military recruiting station in Chattanooga, Tenn., instantly killing four U.S. marines and later killing a Navy sailor because of sustained injuries. Two others, a marine and a Chattanooga police officer, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident that made national headlines and caught the attention of Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
Days after the incident, Manning to offer his condolences. He then quietly to help the victims’ families,
“Our family has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the great city of Chattanooga, and it has a very special place in our hearts,” Manning said via . “But on July 16th, 2015, this strong, welcoming community was forever changed by the tragedy that unfolded.”
On Veteran’s Day, ESPN published a 10-minute “30-for-30” short on the incident .
