BRIGHTON — A man accused of organizing a bogus charity and pocketing the donations pleaded not guilty in district court on Thursday.

Adam Shryock, 36, faces one count of theft of $1 million or more, conspiracy to commit theft of $1 million or more and charitable fraud.

All of the charges are felonies.

Prosecutors in Adams County and Genevieve Cruz, 58, in April.

The two are accused of running a scam in which the two obtained Serta mattresses under a warranty program, claiming to be donating the mattresses to the and distributed to refugees. Authorities say Cruz worked as a donation coordinator for the charity and allegedly sold most of the mattresses for profit at reduced prices out of a storage unit in Adams County.

Shryock was the founder of Boobies Rock!, a fake charity fundraising group at the by the Colorado Attorney General’s office. In that case, Shryock is accused of collecting and keeping donations made to the fake charity.

In January, Shryock was ordered to for violating a July 2013 court order prohibiting him from engaging in or selling merchandize for any charitable cause and claiming the funds are going toward charitable causes.

Shryock is scheduled to appear in Adams District Court at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Cruz’s case is set to go to trial January.
