A school bus carrying 40 students west of Durango rolled about 15 feet down an embankment before coming to rest on its wheels.

There were no serious injuries reported in the accident, which happened about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of Lightner Creek Road, according to Durango Fire & Rescue’s website.

“No serious injuries at all,” Dave Imming, a fire district spokesman, told the Durango Herald. “It’s mostly bumps and bruises and one ankle injury.”

Students on the Durango School District bus were transferred to another bus and were evaluated.

Students who were not picked up by family at the scene were taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center to be picked up later.

Ten students were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to the fire department.

The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
