MANCOS — Prosecutors in southwestern Colorado say a town marshal who resigned Monday under a cloud of trouble will be charged with six counts between two unspecified criminal cases.
John Cox stepped down from his post in Mancos roughly two weeks after being placed on administrative leave and days after he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
William Furse, Montezuma County’s district attorney, says Cox faces charges that include computer crimes, perjury, false reporting and three counts of official misconduct.
“I can’t comment formally at this time,” Furse said.
Cox was investigated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and officials say his alleged crimes spanned Aug. 1 to October.
The trustees in Mancos, southwest of Durango, accepted Cox’s resignation at a special meeting Monday night. Andrea Phillips, the town’s administrator, declined to say why Cox was placed on leave Nov. 4, calling the move a “personnel issue.”
