ASPEN — Aspen police arrested a 32-year-old Snowmass Village man early Sunday after he head-butted a man at a downtown bar for no apparent reason, according to police reports.

Jared Jager told officers “he knew that he should not have done it but he did,” before he was handcuffed, taken to jail and charged with assault and battery, according to one report.

Jager’s side of the story was that the 30-year-old victim in the incident was being “all drunk” and “got in his face,” so he head-butted him, the report states. A friend of Jager’s told officers the victim hit on a girl Jager was interested in, which frustrated Jager and caused the head-butt, according to the report.

However, the victim told police the head-butt was “completely unprovoked,” according to another police officer’s report. He said he was sitting at a table near the door when Jager approached, got in his face and the victim responded verbally. Jager then said, “Let’s take this outside,” and head-butted the man.

The victim had a bloody nose and a contusion on the bridge of his nose, the report states.

On the way to jail, “Jager was apologetic for causing trouble, and he stated that ‘he knows better than to do what he did,'” the police report states.
