Rematches in football aren’t unuual this time of year.

One on Saturday will involve Windsor (11-1) at Longmont (12-0) at Everly-Montgomery Field in the Class 4A state semifinals. The last time the two met was on Oct. 15. Longmont, after stating quarterback David Speidel got hurt early in the game, inserted freshman Oakley Dehning and scored in the final seconds and converted a 2-point conversion to win 8-7 in the very tough Longs Peak League.

Both teams left the field with some what-if? thoughts.

Trojans senior defensive back-kicker Cooper Rothe appreciated the victory, but said Saturday’s game is a chance to prove improvement as well as make a second consecutive

“Yeah, definitely, we’re really looking forward to doing better this team and we have a lot to show,” Rothe said. “We’ve come a long way.”

“(The Wizards) defense is good and we’re using that as motivation.”
