Costco Wholesale’s rotisserie chicken salad has been linked to an E. coli outbreak in seven states, sickening at least 19 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a statement Tuesday.

. Two were in Jefferson County and one each in Arapahoe and Routt counties. All four patients have recovered, according to .

Cases also were reported in California, Missouri, Montana, Utah, Virginia and Washington state.

The outbreak has sent five people to the hospital, including one in Colorado, with two of them developing hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure, the CDC said. There have been no deaths reported, the agency said.

The evidence suggests that the chicken salad was the likely source of the outbreak, the CDC said. Almost 90 percent of the people purchased or ate the dish in the week before their illnesses.

The Colorado patients purchased the salad — item number 37719 — on Oct. 25 and 26 and got six between Oct. 28 and Nov. 3.

Costco said last week that it had removed the item from U.S. stores and stopped further production.

Costco, based in Issaquah, Wash., didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
