A man was arrested Tuesday night in Colorado Springs for allegedly bringing a handgun to a college campus, police said.
Officers responded at about 8:30 p.m. to Everest College, 1815 Jet Wing Drive, on a report of a man with gun, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.
A description of the suspect was given to police by a security officer and a man matching the description was found.
The man was detained, without incident, but he wasn’t carrying a gun, police said. Officers searched the area where they contacted him, near the front doors of the building, and found an unloaded .357 revolver in a trash can.
Witnesses positively identified the man as having the gun on school property, police said.
The suspect, identified by police as Samuel Earl Jackson, 18, was arrested for possessing a weapon on school property, a class six felony, and was taken to the El Paso County Jail.
Jackson was also held on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, said Lt. Darrin Abbink.
Earlier this year, Jackson was found guilty of attempting to disarm a peace officer, a felony, relating to a July 11, 2015, incident, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years probation.
Jackson was also found guilty of felony trespassing, related to an April 14, 2015, incident. In that case he was sentenced to probation.
