In addition to , the Broncos worked out 17 defensive players, including nine defensive backs, on Tuesday.

The loss of Ponder cleared a roster spot that the Broncos could use on a defensive back to bolster their depleted safety corps. T.J. Ward (ankle), David Bruton (knee) and Omar Bolden (hamstring) are all dealing with injuries that could keep them out of Sunday’s game against Oakland.

The Broncos worked out five linebackers (including former Colorado State linebacker Aaron Davis), two defensive ends and one defensive tackle.

Davis led CSU in tackles in 2013 (120) and 2014 (118) and finished his four-year career there with 345 total tackles, one interception, nine passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Davis, a 5-foot-11, 225-pound second-team All-Mountain West selection, was invited to the February NFL draft combine and had a rookie-camp tryout with the Raiders.
