Interview with Maryanne Imig, redesigner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I have enjoyed working in several forms of design for 15 years. I have experience with color selections, staging, creating new designs and, of course, redesign.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: At Reflections Redesign, I listen to what the client wants. They may only ask for an hour consultation. Then we discuss what they want and I custom design a step-by-step plan that they can complete on their own. Or, if the client chooses to hire me, their consultation fee is waived and we begin their design. I intentionally choose not to add on surcharges to my clients’ purchases. I instead choose to charge a reasonable fee for gathering the pieces we decide on.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I truly enjoy people. When I meet with a client, I do my best to listen and give them eye contact. I like to ask them questions about themselves and their lives — who lives in the home, are there children or animals, etc. Every one of us is a puzzle and if I am patient and kind I get to see who that person is and how I can best serve them. Then they feel good and I do, too.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Having the public understand that not all forms of design need be expensive. In forming Reflections Redesign, I wanted to be accessible to all pricing budgets. That is why I call my business “redesign.” I can take what you already have in your home and give it a new spin. This, along with paint, reasonably priced accent pieces and some good old-fashioned hard work, can give you a million-dollar look without spending a million.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I have worked in dentistry for many years. It is a very detailed field, and that attention to detail has greatly influenced my design career. I also have been fortunate to work with a life coach. This has helped me in my communication skills, as well as being a better listener.
