Intermountain Electric has filed a federal lawsuit seeking more than $3.4 million against the contractor and insurance companies involved in the Veteran’s hospital project in Aurora.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Denver alleges contract breaches in the construction of the hospital, which is still under construction.

The lawsuit was filed under the Miller Act by Greenwood Village attorney Alvin M. Cohen. The lawsuit seeks compensation for the debt, interest, attorneys fees and costs.

The entire hospital project was originally estimated to cost . A recent estimate has the total cost at $1.7 billion.

Defendants named in the lawsuit include , Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America, Federal Insurance Company, Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland, Zurich American Insurance Company, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and Continental Insurance Company.

The Kiewit-Turner Joint Venture is composed of partners Kiewit Building Group and Turner Construction Company.

The United States Department of Veteran Affairs contracted with Kiewit-Turner Joint Venture, as general contractor, to perform project work, the lawsuit says.

Intermountain, which provided work up until Dec. 9, 2014, had entered contracts with subcontractor Johnson Controls to do part of the work.

The claim is also for labor, materials and equipment.
