As 2015 comes to a close, we’re once again asking leading figures on the Colorado beer scene to reflect on the past year and look ahead to next.
This next installment in our 5th annual Beer In Review features Tommy Bibliowicz, founder of in Broomfield. The brewery that has been operating for a year off of U.S. Highway 287 started as a big player with a 20-barrel system and modern-style taproom.
Now, on to Tommy’s picks:
Favorite beer of the year: I would have to say Crooked Stave Nightmare on Brett. That beer blew me away. The complex wild yeast characters are so nicely balanced with the light bourbon finish.
Colorado brewery of the year: The brewery really embodies everything right within the Colorado brewing industry. Their barrel aged and wild series are really second to none and their core lineup set the standard.
New Colorado brewery of the year: They really are the full package from great beer to an amazing taproom. They approached some really interesting styles and hit them all on point. I also think their open fermentation is something few small breweries attempt, and I think they are going to make some really cool things with that.
Colorado brewery to watch in 2016: I think they are really entering some interesting territory and have made some smart moves to grow. They also have great branding and amazing brews!
Most notable craft beer news or trend of 2015: The biggest news stories have continued to be the purchasing of craft breweries by larger entities. I think that trend is going to continue and become more prevalent. I also believe that over the next few years, the amount of craft breweries merging with each other is going to increase to keep pace with these larger acquisitions.
Craft brewing trend to watch for in 2016: I think 2016 is going to see an increase of larger breweries purchasing smaller craft breweries. But the trend with the remaining craft brewers is more collaboration and partnership to battle the A.B.M.C. Death Star.
