Two people were seriously wounded Friday afternoon in a Denver shooting, police say.
The shooting happened about 4:15 p.m. on the 1600 block of South Federal Boulevard.
Police say the shooter possibly fled on foot.
Officers concentrated in the Brookhaven Apartments parking lot. The parking lot was cordoned off, and police were searching for evidence around a dark SUV that has its lights on and the door open on the east side of the apartment building.
As police searched for evidence, two kids tossed a football in a lot along nearby Sanderson Gulch, about 100 feet away.
A man, who did not want to identify himself for fear of his safety, said he saw the aftermath of the shooting from his nearby apartment complex.
After hearing five or six shots, the man saw someone running away from the SUV. A moment later, he saw another man limp out of the SUV that police focused on through the evening.
The man said a neighborhood watch is needed to keep local kids safe.
“I’m still in disbelief,” he said. “Things are getting out of hand.”
Police did not release Friday night a description of the suspect or a motive in the shooting.
Both victims were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said.
