December usually is the time Coloradans host or travel for tournament basketball.
Perennial big-school boys power Denver East will be heading to Maui. The Angels will leave Wednesday for a four-game trip in Hawaii.
“We were invited and it should be a great trip for the kids,” coach Rudy Carey said.
The Angels, who have played teams from California to Pennsylvania in recent years, will open against Foothill of Henderson, Nev.
Denver East, 3-2 after Friday night’s 58-55 victory at Cherry Creek in Greenwood Village, had to raise $35,000 for the trip, according to Carey.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Angels senior guard Jack Buckmelter said on Friday night.
