NEW YORK —

Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey fell short of winning the Heisman at the ceremony in New York. Alabama running back Derrick Henry won the award. McCaffrey was runner-up.

Henry had 1,986 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns on 339 carries this season.

McCaffrey gained national attention for breaking Barry Sanders’ 27-year-old FBS record for most all-purpose yards in a single season with 3,496. Sanders’ total was 3,250.

McCaffrey is the son of former Denver Broncos wide reciever Ed McCaffrey. Ed won two superbowls with the Broncos during the team’s 1997 and 1998 seasons.
