WASHINGTON — Colorado congressman Scott Tipton is absolutely, positively sure that the odds are 99.9 percent against him running for U.S. Senate in 2016.

But the Republican from Cortez can’t quite bring himself to go the final 0.1 percent and deliver a * and dismiss completely a race to try and unseat Democrat Michael Bennet next year.

In an with Roll Call, a Capitol Hill publication, Tipton was pretty emphatic in saying he was out.

“You know, we’ve got a lot of issue we’re working on that are incredibly important for my part of the state and our state at large. And we’ve had some success, and that’s where we’re focused,” Tipton said.

Asked to clarify if he was still leaving the door open, Tipton said, “No, I’m running for the Third District.”

But in a follow-up email to Tipton’s office on Monday, spokesman Josh Green said the official word was a definite maybe. Or a maybe – definitely. (Note the word “currently” in the below statement)

“Congressman Tipton is currently focused on running for re-election in the 3rd Congressional District and working on the major issues coming before the House this week including the omnibus,” Green said.

But with other candidates such as state Rep. mulling a bid, Tipton will be forced to make a definite decision soon.

Maybe.
