Donald Cerrone’s bid for a UFC title ended In fantastic fashion, just not in the way he wanted.
Rafael dos Anjos defeated Cerrone via technical knockout one minute, six seconds into their UFC lightweight title bout Saturday in Orlando, Fla.
The Denver-born Cerrone, 32, couldn’t get his offense started and was sent reeling after Dos Anjos began connecting with a barrage of punches. After Cerrone’s failed attempt to take the champion down, Dos Anjos kept attacking the downed challenger before the referee called the bout.
The loss ends Cerrone’s eight-fight win streak. His last loss was in a unanimous decision in 2013 to Dos Anjos. Cerrone’s record falls to 28-7. Dos Anjos improves to 25-7.
