A Denver grand jury has handed down a 70-count indictment against a construction contractor accused of stealing more than $470,000 from property owners and subcontractors in and around the city.

Roddy Reef, 56, is charged with violating the Colorado Crime Control Act along with 64 counts of theft and five counts of forgery, the city’s district attorney’s office said Monday.

Prosecutors say Reef, doing business as R2 Construction Company, engaged in a pattern of racketeering from those who hired him.

“The owners paid funds to Reef which were designated to pay to subcontractors who worked on the projects,” the DA’s office said in a news release. “Instead of paying subcontractors, Reef used the money for his personal benefit.”

Authorities say they have identified more than 50 victims.

Reef is free after posting a $10,000 bond and is next due in court Jan. 7.

“Investigators believe there are additional victims,” the release said.

Anyone who believes they were targeted by Reef is asked to call prosecutors at 720-913-9179.
