GRAND JUNCTION — A struggling busboy who returned $3,000 in cash that he found on the floor is getting rewarded with a big tip.

As of Monday afternoon, people impressed with Johnny Duckworth’s honesty had raised more than $5,200 through .

Duckworth found the cash last Tuesday at Randy’s Southside Diner in Grand Junction and gave it to his boss, Randy Emmons.

“He walked up to me and said, ‘Boss, I found this envelope and it feels like it has a lot of money in it,’ ” Emmons told KKCO-TV. “And he handed it to me and walked away.”

The money was in an envelope behind a booth.

“Just lying on the floor, dead as a doorknob, just lying there,” Duckworth said.

There also was a bank ATM slip inside, and the bank was able to return the money to its owner, who gave Duckworth a $300 tip.

“Makes me feel a lot better about people knowing there are a lot of honest people out here,” said Darrell Cox, who lost the money. “Like I said, I would never have known where it went. I would have never had a clue.”

Emmons said Duckworth rides his bike to work, and his paycheck is garnished for medical bills.

Duckworth never thought of keeping the money he found.

“It’s not mine,” he said. “I work for a living.”
