A Lone Tree man was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns after a remote control battery he bought as a Christmas present ignited a small fire in his basement.
Although the man extinguished the fire early Monday morning, he was burned in the process, said Steve Standridge, spokesman for South Metro Fire Rescue.
By the time firefighters arrived at the home on Peacock Drive, all that was left of the fire was a burn mark in the basement and a smoky haze, Standridge said.
The homeowner had bought the Christmas present on Sunday, he said.
