GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — A convicted killer serving time in Idaho is facing new charges related to a 1996 robbery and shooting at a Colorado gas station.

The Grand Junction Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1MtEckM ) that 48-year-old Richard James Klipfel is currently serving a prison sentence of 20 years to life in connection to the 1996 murder of an elderly couple in Pocatello, Idaho.

Authorities say they believe Klipfel and two other men robbed the former Gasamat gas station in Grand Junction, Colorado, days before the Idaho murder. Klipfel allegedly served as the getaway driver with another man convicted in the slaying suspected of shooting the clerk Crystal Bunker. A public defender representing him did not return a call.

Bunker survived and told Mesa County sheriff’s investigators that she noticed all the cash was missing from the register when she woke up.
