Interview with Christie Taylor, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: We founded this business almost nine years ago due to my mom’s (co-owner Jan Eckert) tragic horseback riding accident a few years prior, in which she broke her back in four different places along with other severe injuries. Her recovery was a very slow and a hard one that did not look hopeful until she found a woman who was doing superslow strength training out of her garage in Highlands Ranch. Astonished by her complete recovery and results, forgoing any potential surgeries, Jan and I ventured on the path of opening up this business.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: TruFit20 is different from other exercise programs in many regards, but, first and foremost, I would have to say the safety aspect is what distinguishes us. This is absolutely the best program that you can do when it comes to injuries, not only because we will not cause further damage, but because this workout will stimulate muscle growth around the site and work to rehabilitate said injury. It’s amazing for strengthening backs and knees. Second, this workout is designed around 20 to 30 minutes just once or twice a week, and you can do it in your regular clothes — so, less time in the gym with better results.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I love the results that we can achieve for all walks of life, whether you are young, old, injured, an elite athlete, overweight, underweight or osteoporotic, we have a program for you. Our method is outstanding and can be modeled around so many different needs and goals. We offer three free sessions for each person, not as a marketing tactic, but as a way for us to get to know each person (and vice versa) in order to develop a personalized plan around their specific lifestyle needs.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: “It’s too good to be true” thought processes. People don’t believe that less is actually more. We have it imbedded in our brains that exercise should always be done more often in order to get results. These old myths of cardio and calorie counting have got to go out the door and people have to start looking at science.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Although this method has been around since the 1980s, it’s nothing new per se — it’s just been hiding, and I really feel like its on the cusp of breaking out as the only workout that is both efficient and effective. I like to tell people it’s the difference between a neurological stimulus and physical stimulus. Unlike other workouts, we do not rip and tear muscle fiber in order for it to grow. Rather, we load the targeted muscle to the body’s limit so that by demanding more from it we create the neurological stimulus.
