Interview with Janine Glennon, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: When I was 18, I became a bookkeeper in a fine dining restaurant. I then became a hostess and fell more and more in love with the business. My husband, Michael, started as a dishwasher at Chillingsworth on Cape Cod and later moved to Vail working as a chef at Sweet Basil where we met. I started as a server, then moved into management at Sweet Basil when Michael and I started dating. We opened Vista Restaurant in Avon, moving seven years later to Vista at Arrowhead in the Country Club of the Rockies. Desiring a move to the city brought us to Castle Rock.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We are owner-operated and absolutely love what we do. VistaVino is intimate — we can talk to every table many times throughout the evening. Michael’s food is to die for. It is simple yet bold in flavor.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I love to make people happy with food and wine. It is so satisfying to watch guests enjoy Michael’s food and my wine selections.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Getting enough customers on the weekdays.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Guests are surprised to hear that we lived in the mountains for 27 years and desired to have another restaurant in Castle Rock. We love it!
