Thursday. Denver has been waiting a long time for its first visit from Brooklyn Rider, one of the most adventurous quartets on the classical scene. The group is well-regarded for smashing the barriers between classical and pop, commissioning works from a variety of composers across the musical spectrum. For its ongoing “Almanac” project, the group solicited material from Glenn Kotche of Wilco, Greg Saunier of Deerhoof and jazz stars Bill Frisell and Vijay Iyer. They wrote pieces inspired by icons, such as Keith Haring, Chick Corea and John Steinbeck. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Newman Center, 2344 E. Iliff Ave. $23-$57. 303-871-7720 or .
