Will Ripley, who joined CNN in 2014, is in North Korea for the cable news net, the first foreign journalist to go inside the newly opened Science and Technology Center in Pyongyang.

Ripley, CNN international correspondent based in Tokyo, got a tour but not an interview with scientists involved in the North Korean nuclear program. That request “was denied by North Korean officials,” per CNN.

CNN touted the fact that it is “the only U.S. broadcaster operating in North Korea,” and was able to tour “the atom-shaped building that features a replica of the 2012 rocket that launched a North Korean satellite into orbit.” Inside, “North Koreans told CNN they’re proud of their country’s military accomplishments and believe the nuclear test only ensures peace.”
