Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie on Monday was named NHL third star of the week. Barrie had three goals and six points last week as Colorado collected six of eight points. He had a career-high four points (two goals) in a 4-1 win over Los Angeles on Jan. 4.
For the season Barrie, 24, is sixth among NHL defensemen in points with 29 (seven goals).
Washington winger Alex Ovechkin was named the NHL’s first star and Detroit goaltender Petr Mrazek got the No. 2 nod.
