Interview with Raquia D. Denson, doctor of dental surgery
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I purchased an existing dental practice along with my business partner.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We have fun. We truly enjoy what we do. Often times I hear, “I didn’t like going to the dentist, but I enjoy coming to see you.” A patient’s comfort is the highest compliment we receive.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: What I enjoy most is improving lives. There is the patient, who is self conscious about that chipped front tooth that we are able to fix in one appointment. That is a win. Similarly, a patient whose pain is relieved with one visit. That is a huge win. In those instances, we are able to improve their life in one visit.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Patient education. There are so many outlets available to our patients to gain information. Good and bad. Therefore, it can be a challenge to convey what is true, accurate information.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I was terrified of the dentist my entire life prior to entering dental school. I became that which I was most afraid of to help others overcome their fears.
