WASHINGTON — Former state Sen. Greg Brophy announced today that he planned to resign his position as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Ken Buck — ending a 14-month experiment in which the tried to make it work on Capitol Hill.

“I will still be involved in politics; trying to save the nation from the people with horrible ideas,” wrote Brophy in an email that cited Hunter S. Thompson’s for DC. “I’ll just be doing it from Colorado.”

Asked what’s next, Brophy was coy.

“I’m not going to say, but it will be in Colorado,” he said, adding — with a laugh — that the did not plan to join the crowded Republican field now competing for a chance to run against U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo.

During his time with Buck, Brophy commuted back-and-forth between DC and Colorado, racking more than 200,000 frequent flyer miles, he said.
