Quentin Shore scored two goals Friday night as the University of Denver held on for a 5-3 victory over Western Michigan at Magness Arena.

Sheldon Dries scored with 1:49 remaining after the Broncos pulled their goaltender, cutting DU’s lead to 4-3.

But Matt Marcinew scored an empty-net goal 90 seconds later, and the Pioneers held on from there. They improved to 10-7-4 overall and 6-4-1 in the NCHC.

Shore scored his goals during a nine-minute span in the second period, the second goal giving the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.

Emil Romig put DU on the scoreboard with a goal just two minutes into the game.

After Griffen Molino tied the score at 1-1 with a goal midway through the first period, Troy Terry put the Pioneers back in front with a goal just before the end of the period.

Shore’s two second-period goals were sandwiched by Dries’ first goal of the game for Western Michigan, which dropped to 7-12-2 and 4-7-0.

Tanner Jaillet made 30 saves for the Pioneers, who won their third consecutive game after enduring a stretch of six consecutive games without a victory.

Matt Vanvoorhis contributed two assists for DU.

Air Force 1, Army 0

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Freshman goalie Shane Starrett posted his first collegiate shutout, leading Air Force to a road win over academy rival Army.

Max Hartner scored the game’s only goal for the Falcons.
